Imaginative illustrations, covers and layout design

Children's book illustration

Illustrating children’s books is all about imagination and bringing forth elements of the story you weren’t necessarily able to include in the text. It’s an extension of the world building that the story has started, and I love how much opportunity for creativity there is.

Bringing characters and settings to life is so rewarding, and I like to bring my clients along the journey as I go. Between storyboards, character designs, initial sketches, colour palettes and final designs, the illustration process is truly collaborative which I think is so special.

Book covers

There’s a reason for the phrase ‘never judge a book by it’s cover’ – it’s because so many of us do. I’m certainly guilty!

There’s something so tempting about a book with a lovely cover design. It gives you a peek into what to expect inside. Beautiful book covers really can (and do) give you an edge over all the other books to choose from, and can even turn your book into something gift-worthy, too. I absolutely adore illustrated book covers, and if you do too, get in touch! I’d love to work with you on your next project.

Editorial illustration

Editorial illustrations are used to further express a point made in the text of either physical or digital publications, resources and books. They are also used to complement text in a way that conveys the emotions the writer is trying to evoke.

The design process for editorial illustrations goes from conceptual illustrations, to various stages of sketching and colour exploration, to the final piece ready for publication. I enjoy using various mediums to create my illustrations, but I tend to incorporate black ink work that make illustrations stand out and colours pop.
